On December 8, 2000, Trevor Deely disappeared from the streets of Dublin, Ireland. He had spent the previous evening at his work Christmas party before going to a nightclub with colleagues. In the early hours of the morning, he began making his way home on foot.

What happened during the next hour remains one of Irelandโs most enduring missing-person mysteries. Trevor was caught on CCTV several times that night. One of the recordings showed him speaking to an unidentified man outside his workplace. Another captured his final confirmed sighting. After that, Trevor seemingly vanished without a trace.

The Night of His Disappearance

Trevor Deely was a 22-year-old IT worker originally from Naas, County Kildare, in Ireland. He was working for Bank of Ireland Asset Management in Dublin. Trevorโs manager at the time, Daragh Treacy, described him as โalmost the perfect employeeโ for his strong work ethic and overall positive demeanour.
CCTV footage later became one of the most important pieces of evidence in the investigation. The footage showed an unidentified man dressed in dark clothing near the entrance before Trevor arrived. Gardaรญ have said the man appeared to wait outside the workplace for more than 30 minutes. At around 3:34 a.m., he moved toward Trevor and the two appeared to have a brief conversation. The unidentified man has never been conclusively identified. Police have repeatedly appealed for information about him because he may hold important information about Trevorโs final movements.
Trevor entered his workplace and spoke with a colleague working night shift. He made himself a cup of tea and checked emails before leaving the building around 4:03 a.m. and continued walking toward his home with an umbrella.
Trevorโs Final Sighting

At approximately 4:14 a.m., Trevor was captured by another CCTV camera passing the Bank of Ireland ATM on Haddington Road heading towards his home in the Ballsbridge area. This was the last confirmed sighting of him. The footage showed Trevor walking along the road with his umbrella. Gardaรญ have also identified a man walking in the same direction shortly afterwards. Investigators have previously said they believe this may be the same man who was seen outside Trevorโs workplace. However, he was later identified and interviewed by detectives and provided a witness statement. Trevorโs family and investigators found nothing suspicious about his movements, and he was subsequently ruled out.

The Search for Trevor

When Trevor failed to appear at work, concern began to grow. His family reported him missing after it became clear that nobody had heard from him. An extensive search followed. Investigators examined CCTV footage, questioned potential witnesses and pursued numerous lines of inquiry. Over the years, several searches were conducted in areas around Dublin. Investigators have also followed leads outside Ireland.
In 2016, Gardaรญ began a review and re-investigation of the case at Pearse Street Garda Station. Hundreds of investigative actions have since been carried out. Digital deconstruction of CCTV in 2017 was also carried out. Gardaรญ are appealing to people to come forward who were around the area in the early hours of December 8. A โฌ100,000 reward for information remains open.

The Unidentified Man Near the Workplace:
One possibility is that Trevor may have encountered someone shortly after leaving his workplace. CCTV captured a man near the office around the time Trevor disappeared. The circumstances surrounding this individualโs presence have attracted attention, although there is no confirmed evidence that he was involved in Trevorโs disappearance.
An accident:
Another theory suggests that Trevor may have become disoriented while making his way home and suffered an accident. The route included areas where he could have fallen or entered the River Dodder. The extreme weather and the torrential rain that night were a big factor. However, the lack of personal belongings recovered has made this theory difficult to confirm but remains a possibility.
An encounter with another person:
Another possibility is that Trevor met someone after leaving the nightclub. He was seen on CCTV during his journey home, but what happened after his last confirmed sighting remains unknown. Ultimately, none of these theories has been confirmed. Gardaรญ continue to focus particularly on identifying the unknown man and have stressed that even seemingly insignificant information could assist the investigation.
A Case Still Without Answers
More than two decades after Trevor disappeared, his family continues to seek answers. The case has generated numerous theories over the years. However, speculation should not be confused with evidence. There has never been enough publicly established evidence to determine exactly what happened to Trevor. His final movements remain partially documented by CCTV, yet the evidence has never revealed where he went afterwards.
