Netflix is bringing another unsettling true-crime documentary to its viewers with The Widower: ’Til Death Do Us Part, arriving on September 30, 2026. Directed by Chris Smith, the documentary follows a journalist and a detective as they revisit a decades-long investigation surrounding a man whose seemingly ordinary romantic life became connected to a series of disturbing deaths.

At the centre of the documentary is Thomas Randolph, a Nevada man whose complicated history of marriages, money and suspicious deaths eventually led investigators to question whether several tragedies surrounding him were really coincidences. Netflix’s official description says the documentary examines how a man’s charm allegedly concealed a trail of failed marriages and suspicious deaths.

Who Is Thomas Randolph?
Randolph was married six times, and four of his wives died under circumstances that later attracted attention from investigators and prosecutors. However, the circumstances surrounding those deaths were not all established as murders, making the case more complicated than a simple list of victims. His sixth wife, Sharon Causse, became the focus of the investigation that ultimately resulted in Randolph’s murder conviction.
In 2008, Randolph called 911 from his Las Vegas home. He told authorities that an intruder had shot Sharon and that he had subsequently shot the intruder. The man killed inside the house was later identified as Michael Miller, a handyman Randolph had befriended. What initially appeared to be a deadly home invasion soon raised questions for investigators. The circumstances surrounding the shooting would eventually become the starting point for a much larger investigation. As investigators looked more closely at Randolph’s past, they began examining the deaths of his previous wives and the circumstances surrounding each relationship. His troubled marital history earned him the nickname “Black Widower”.
Prosecutors later argued that the incident had been staged. According to the prosecution’s case, Randolph had arranged for Miller to kill Sharon before killing Miller himself. Insurance money was also an important part of the prosecution’s theory. Randolph was ultimately convicted in 2017 of conspiracy to commit murder and two counts of murder. He was sentenced to death.
But the legal story did not end there. Randolph’s original conviction was overturned after the Nevada Supreme Court found that evidence concerning his alleged prior bad acts had been improperly admitted. He was subsequently tried again. In 2023, a second jury again convicted him of one count of conspiracy to commit murder and two murder counts, and he was sentenced in 2024 to an aggregate term of 60 years to life in prison. The Nevada Supreme Court later affirmed that judgment.

What Will The Widower Explore?
Rather than focusing only on the 2008 killings, Netflix’s documentary looks at the larger story surrounding Randolph and the investigation that unfolded over decades. The documentary brings together the journalist and detective who worked to understand how the different pieces of the case fit together. That wider timeline is what makes The Widower particularly intriguing. Before Sharon Causse’s death, there had already been questions surrounding other relationships and deaths connected to Randolph. His earlier history even became relevant during his first murder trial, although the use of that evidence later became a major issue in his appeal.
The documentary also arrives after years of television coverage and courtroom proceedings surrounding the case. Earlier Dateline coverage examined Randolph’s marriages and the investigation into Sharon’s death, while the case has since been revisited in other true-crime productions. With archival material, investigative reporting and the twists surrounding Randolph’s two trials, The Widower: ’Til Death Do Us Part promises to revisit a case in which the biggest questions were not limited to what happened inside one Las Vegas home, but extended much further into the past.
