The Case Hunter is a small independent online magazine dedicated to European true crime and the mysteries that surround it. We work as a remote editorial team, and everything we publish is researched, written and edited in-house.
What we cover
Our focus is Europe: unsolved cases and disappearances, missing persons, historical crimes and the folklore panics that grew around them, documentary and series reviews, and the solved cases whose investigations still have something to teach. From the Isdal Woman in Norway to the Gorbals Vampire panic in Glasgow, we look for the stories behind the headlines — and for the details that are too often lost in retelling.
How we work
True crime involves real victims and real families, and we try never to forget that.
- Sources first. We work from court records, contemporary newspaper archives, police statements and academic research wherever they exist, and we say so when they don’t.
- Respect for the people involved. We avoid speculation presented as fact, we don’t sensationalise suffering, and we keep the focus on the case, not the spectacle.
- Corrections. If we get something wrong, we fix it. Email us and we will look at it.
The team
Ankana Das — lead writer and editor. Ankana writes most of our case files and reviews, from disappearances such as Trevor Deely and the Emilie Meng case to historical investigations like the Hinterkaifeck murders, the Black Monk of Pontefract and the Gorbals Vampire.
Shreeparna Das — writer and researcher. Shreeparna covers unsolved cases and the darker corners of folklore, from the Isdal Woman and the Lead Masks case to the Hexham Heads.
