That changed in 2011, when the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reopened the investigation after receiving new information, from the yacht captain, Denis Davern. In 2012, her death certificate was amended. The manner of death was changed from accidental to undetermined, with the cause described as “drowning and other undetermined factors.” The amended document also stated that the circumstances surrounding how Wood entered the water had never been clearly established.
The change did not mean investigators had established that Wood was murdered. Instead, it reflected the fact that authorities could no longer confidently determine whether her drowning was accidental or connected to another event.
The Injuries That Raised Questions
One of the issues that drew renewed attention was the bruising found on Wood’s body. Investigators questioned whether the injuries occurred with a simple accidental fall into the water or prior to it. However, no definitive answer about when or how the bruises occurred has been established.
Robert Wagner and the Investigation
